AIA plays a preeminent role in representing the aerospace and defense industry in all facets of the Department of Defense’s acquisition process. During this time of declining defense budgets, it is imperative that industry actively engage with Congress, the Pentagon, and the White House to streamline processes and reduce unnecessary costs to ensure that the defense industrial base remains viable and vibrant.
While many activities are underway, AIA is seeking our members input into a very important request from the Chair and Ranking members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees and Congressman Thornberry seeking improvements to the acquisition system. They have asked for our response by July 10 in order to inform the Fiscal Year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act. You can access the letter in the link below. We have also provided for your convenience, a template to structure your responses to the eight issues posed in the letter. The email address email@example.com has been set up to receive your responses and any other relevant comments to this challenging initiative. This webpage also provides access to the many reports and position papers AIA has published on various acquisition issues. These are consensus documents for your reference and will be used as the foundation for responding to the letter.
This effort is being led by the Councils, Committees and Working Groups in AIA’s National Security and Acquisition Policy division together with the Washington Procurement Committee in AIA’s Legislative Division. We look forward to working with you and putting together an actionable product to the Congress that alleviates cost and burden on industry and ultimately protects DOD’s modernization and operating accounts into the future.
