Arlington, Va. (June 14, 2022) – Today, Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning issued the following statement applauding the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of two key bills related to advanced air mobility (AAM):
“With a rapidly growing market expected to reach $115 billion annually by 2035 advanced air mobility is the next great step forward in aviation technology. Bills like these are prime examples of the public-private partnership necessary to advance U.S. leadership in emerging technologies, create hundreds of thousands of jobs, and ultimately transform the transport of people and goods across the country. We are grateful for the work of the bills’ sponsors, Senators Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) and Representatives Rick Larsen (D-Wash.), Garret Graves (R-La.), and Dina Titus (D-Nev.) for recognizing this important opportunity and getting these bills across the finish line.”
The bills, the AAIM Act (H.R.6270) and the Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act (S.516), passed the House with bipartisan support. The AAIM Act establishes a $25 million pilot program to provide grants to develop AAM infrastructure such as vertiports where air taxis could take off and land. Under the Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act, the Department of Transportation would convene a working group to coordinate efforts on emerging aviation technology.
