Arlington, Va. (Nov. 15, 2023) – Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning today commented on congressional action to extend government funding beyond November 17:
“Stopgap funding does not mean success, but it is better than a shutdown,” Fanning said. “Neither option should be how America governs. The standard must be passing a budget and appropriating the requisite resources. There is no more powerful signal to our citizens, allies, and adversaries alike than our elected officials reaching consensus on a full year of funding.”
Earlier this week, Fanning urged congressional leaders to remain “laser-focused on fulfilling their constitutional duty” and noted that the negative impacts of the current continuing resolution were already being felt across the American aerospace and defense industry. In September, AIA sent a letter to congressional leadership urging Congress to “put the economic well-being and security of this country first” by preventing a government shutdown. Fanning also appeared on CNBC to discuss how shutdowns and continuing resolutions uniquely impact the aerospace and defense industry.
