Arlington, Va. (Dec. 19, 2023) – Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning today released the following statement on the Senate’s vote to extend the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) authorization through March 8:

“Allowing the FAA’s authorization to expire is a non-starter, but an extension through March only delays the inevitable: Congress must reauthorize the FAA to strengthen our global leadership in aviation, maintain the gold standard for safety and certification, and unleash innovation that will fundamentally transform the way Americans travel,” Fanning said.“Safety is the industry’s top priority, and we cannot allow a pattern of short-term extensions to continue. We are grateful to Congress for their work to ensure the FAA will remain open – especially through the busy holiday season – but there is more work to be done. AIA looks forward to working with Congress to complete long-term FAA authorization early next year.”

In November, Fanning sent a letter to congressional leadership urging Congress to pass legislation authorizing the FAA, calling it “critical tool for setting civil aviation on a long-term course to success.”
