Arlington, Va. – Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning today urged Congress to act immediately to fund the federal government for the 2025 fiscal year:

“Everyone knows the serious repercussions of long-term continuing resolutions and shutdowns – slowing efforts to modernize everything from our air traffic control system to our nuclear arsenal, hurting our troops’ pay and benefits, and driving up costs throughout the federal government. But once again Congress is mired in protracted debate over how to keep the federal government open past September 30.

“The impacts to our country, and the aerospace and defense industry specifically, are many – too many to list out here. But General Brown – our nation’s top military adviser – said it best when he said CRs are ‘equivalent to taking a knee on advancing our defense capabilities’ and damage the Department of Defense’s relationship with the defense industrial base, which relies on stable, predictable, on-time funding to fulfill its contracts and innovate in the future.

“With the fiscal year ending in just over a week, Congress must find a rational, responsible path forward soon. A short-term continuing resolution is acceptable for now, but it’s no replacement for full-year appropriations bills – now, next year, or ever.”
