Arlington, Va. (July 27, 2023) – Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning today praised the Senate for passing S. 2226, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024, with a strong bipartisan vote of 86-11.
“The Aerospace Industries Association welcomes the passage of the Senate’s National Defense Authorization Act, which provides our defense industrial base, our troops, and our allies and partners the support they need to succeed at this pivotal time,” Fanning said.“Notably, it includes key provisions, which align with AIA’s recommendations, to clear a path forward for the Australia – United Kingdom – United States security partnership and modernize our defense trade system.
“We thank Chairman Reed and Ranking Member Wicker for their leadership, and we look forward to seeing a conference committee produce a bipartisan, bicameral final product that strengthens the defense industrial base and our shared strategic priorities.”
In March 2023, AIA joined with its counterparts in Australia and the U.K., the Australian Industry Group and ADS, to release a joint paper outlining steps to reduce the trade, regulatory, and bureaucratic barriers that could hinder the historic AUKUS partnership. AIA also released specific recommendations targeting the U.S. regulatory framework to support international trade, collaboration, and integration between the three countries.
