Arlington, Va. – Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning today applauded the National Defense Industrial Strategy Implementation Plan (NDIS-IP) released by the Department of Defense (DOD) today:

“The American aerospace and defense industry out-innovates, out-paces, and out-performs our competitors, but to do so, we rely on a sound strategy and clear demand signals,” Fanning said. “The National Defense Industrial Strategy Implementation Plan lays the groundwork to expand both the capacity and capability of the industrial base – bolstering the national defense of today while unleashing the technology of tomorrow.

AIA is particularly pleased to see a plan to incorporate performance and outcome metrics associated with six key risk areas. This will provide visibility to stakeholders and encourage policymakers to enact risk mitigation strategies.

“We are eager to understand the specific metrics the NDIS-IP will incorporate into its classified report and encourages the DOD to avoid adding cumbersome compliance and reporting requirements in the process. AIA thanks Dr. Laura Taylor-Kale for her leadership and looks forward to continuing our partnership and realizing the full potential of this strategy.”

In January, AIA applauded the Department’s first-ever National Defense Industrial Strategy and, in July, commented on the interim implementation plan.
