Arlington, Va. (Dec. 26, 2023) – Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning today made the following statement on the proposed Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) rule:
“Burdensome regulation has long been a hurdle, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses that contribute to the defense industrial base. It’s critical for defense companies to have the tools – and the standards – to keep our nation’s sensitive unclassified material secure while not deterring companies from contributing to the defense industrial base,” Fanning said.
“At a time when significant changes are required to keep a vibrant and efficient defense industrial base, AIA calls on the Department of Defense to correctly identify and define controlled unclassified information, solve the international issue of foreign sovereignty, and lead other federal agencies to coalesce around what it is doing to implement CMMC. We look forward to reviewing the proposed rule and providing full feedback to ensure the Department has what it needs to implement a final rule that accounts for the complexities within the defense industrial base.”
