Statement by Aerospace Industries Association President and CEO Eric Fanning
Arlington, Va. — The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) praised the U.S. Senate’s vote today to ratify the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The USMCA will strengthen the U.S. aerospace and defense (A&D) industry’s relationships with Canada and Mexico, help support our more than 2.5 million American jobs, and bolster the industry’s nearly $90 billion trade surplus, which is the largest of any sector.
“Modernizing trade relationships with Canada and Mexico helps protect America’s access to critical markets and international supply chains, while also supporting our national security and economic future,” said AIA President and CEO Eric Fanning. “The USMCA will help ensure that the U.S. aerospace and defense industry continues to be the global leader in innovation and manufacturing.”
Collectively, trade with Canada and Mexico reached nearly $1.2 trillion in 2018. U.S. A&D exports to Canada amounted to nearly $10 billion, while exports to Mexico amounted to nearly $5 billion. Canada and Mexico were also the United States’ second and sixth largest aerospace suppliers, bolstering the competitiveness of U.S. aerospace and defense systems sold around the world.
